1. What are refered to as indie?
Indie is a short term for independent artists who may have recorded and produced their own singles, ep or albums. These are unsigned bands who hold the publishing rights of their songs. Over the years the term indie has been overused that it became a term to specify one particular genre of music. In this project however, indie will refer to independent artists regardless of genre of music who have not signed to any major label and owns the publishing rights to their recordings.
2. What is Mymusic.ph?
Mymusic.ph is the Philippine's biggest mobile music store which utilizes the payment gateway of all major gsm networks in the country. This means that you can purchase a song by using your celphone, browsing over wap or via text messaging, and downloading the mp3 file straight to your phone. 3. Why cant I access Mymusic.ph on my browser?
Mymusic.ph is a microsite which means it can only be access thru your mobile device by using your phone's browser. Just go to http://smart.MyMusic.ph (for Smart subscribers) or http://globe.MyMusic.ph (for Globe subscribers). Or for text users, just key in ”MyMusic” and send it to 3456.
4. What do I get from my songs included in the indiepinoy project?
A revenue sharing is arranged between the artist and the indiepinoy before any of the songs gets available for downlaod at the mymusic database. This include fullsong download, short preview, truetones, and any other format as agreed by both parties.
5. Will indiepinoy be an obstacle to my band's getting a major recording deal?
No. Instead, we encourage you to get a major recording deal. In fact mymusic has the catalog to almost all major recording labels in the country in their music store. The indiepinoy project may be means for you to be heared and get popular enough to attract a major recording deal.
6. What if I am now selling my album independently?
If you have an album, EP, single released independently and selling on gigs and elsewhere, this will not be a conflict. Infact, indiepinoy will be additional means to further promote your band as well as your albums. What is important however is that you hold the publishing rights to your songs as indiepinoy will be dealing with whoever hold this rights in order to be a participant in the project.
7. What we already have a major label deal?
Indiepinoy cannot deal with artists with major recording deal such as BMG, Warner, EMI, etc. These major label holds the publishing rights of its contract artists and deals with mymusic directly. As you may have noticed, mymusic.ph currently has a wide catalog of songs from major labels. The purpose of indiepinoy project is to include those outside the realms of the major label in the music store. If you already have a major label deal, you will need to talk to your record label to directly deal with mymusic.
8. What do I need to be included in the indiepinoy project?
It is important to have a cd quality recording of your song. Indiepinoy do not have the capacity to record your songs but we can assist you. The songs must be mastered and at par with recordings released by major recordings. In order to make a better presentation of your band, we will require you to submit a short profile, picture and band graphic/logo.
9. What songs may be included in the indiepinoy project?
Only original compositions can be included in the indiepinoy project. Revival songs have to have license permissions dealt with. Indiepinoy will only deal with whoever holds the rights of the songs, so make sure this has been resolved properly before participating in the project.
10. What must I do when I am a participant of the indiepinoy project?
Since this is revenue share, you should promote and encourage your constituents to download your songs from the mymusic store. You can post your specific links to your songs in your band's site, indie album sleaves, or promote them on your gigs.
11. Will indiepinoy promote our songs also?
Indiepinoy will also launch several activities to promote mymusic.ph. This will include getting the songs to be played on radios and tv guestings, holding mall shows and concerts nationwide. Indiepinoy project participants will be selected and must be ready to participate in these activities to promote the project.
